Miao Zhao is a freelance artist whose main mode of expression is video and sound. He has been involved in explorations and practices in different places, such as the Governor's Island Art Festival in New York, the solo exhibition "Vulnerable and Decaying" at Gallery Sensei in the Lower East Side, the Juried Exhibition SHOW YOUR WORLD 2017 in New York, "Anonymous others" at Elizabeth Foundation for The Arts, etc.He believes that creative consciousness and talent lead to the constant challenge and renewal of old experiences, which in turn leads to a constant variation in the stimuli we generate in response to different things; art acts as a physical/psychological stimulus in a sense, but this stimulus is always subject to the influence of reason and new experiences.

Miao Zhao is a freelance artist whose main mode of expression is video and sound. He has been involved in explorations and practices in different places, and believes that creative consciousness and talent lead to the constant challenge and renewal of old experiences, which in turn leads to a constant variation in the stimuli we generate in response to different things; art acts as a physical/psychological stimulus in a sense, but this stimulus is always subject to the influence of reason and new experiences.
His work this time is a series of environmental installations/performances (or land art in certain perspectives). An ideal exhibition would be a real-time experience in the actual environment where he created them, but this time he is presenting them to the audiences in the form of film.
The theme of this series is mainly about sound, interaction with nature and "organic" music. "Organic" music refers to sourcing and reconstructing sound completely from nature, and making musical compositions. However, it sounds not quite like collage music, but rather closer to electronic ambient music.
The series includes: Sounds Like A House, Singing with Mo’erduo, Creek Chime, Sound of deadwood, Sound of Gravitation, The Blind Walk, Organic Music and Animation, Stories Behind the Curtain.
There is a row of mirrors in front of four cushions in the screening room, and the viewers are asked to wear a mirror mask before entering the room. What if Narcissus’ face were a mirror? Then what will he see when he looks, also in a mirror? He will see endless multiplying layers, but each level is a space that is drawn away. At this moment, Where does the identity go when the face no longer exists? The seemingly infinite space between the mirrors is actually the concept of time that light bounces back between the two. Also, mirrors help the audiences take away from the usual environment and enter the nature that the film presents.
此系列主题是有关声音的、与自然的互动,玩味抽象/具象声音,以及“有机”音乐(organic music)。“有机”音乐是指作者录制并解构自然界的声音素材,且用较为主观的艺术表达来重构素材,使之成为全生态音源的拼贴音乐;但听感却和拼贴音乐又不一样,更接近电子氛围音乐。
系列题目包括——房子,歌者神山,树琴,山中马林巴,转塔,有机音乐与动画,雾幕后的故事。
放映空间内, 四张蒲团面前有一排镜面,观者也带着镜子面具入场——如果你是一面镜子,你照镜子时会看到什么?当纳西索斯看水中倒影时,失去了脸部的ID是什么?他会看到无限延伸的层次,但每一层都是被抽离的空间,看似无限但实则是光在两者间疯狂回跳的时间概念——是光的“往返跑”。这个黑屋中设置镜面的伎俩,其实是希望观者抽离习惯的生活空间,进入到影像中的自然。
